Taurus 605 Handgun Grips

I bought a Taurus 605 thinking that the added weight would help in the recoil over the airweight 357 my department issues as a backup. With the short Handgun Grip that are on this thing the recoil is more controlable as far as shot recovery but the snap is brutal. I mean its downright painful to try to fire it with Hydra Shoks in it. With .38 loads is docile as a kitten, but with the .357's its awful. Anyone know who makes Handgun Grip for this thing to make it any better?

I can't for the life of me figure out why Taurus changed the Handgun Grip on the 605!!!
My 605 has the original long Handgun Grips, which are quite comfortable!!
Not long after I purchased mine I saw the ones with the short M85 Handgun Grips!! I'm glad I bought mine when I did!!

Posts: 61 I love the short Handgun Grips on my Taurus 5-shot, but I have very small hands so they fit me well.
Taurus makes pretty blue revolvers. I like pretty blue revolvers.

Posts: 42 I believe they have started using the same Handgun Grips as their .38 SP. It shure helps with conceilability. I'll be looking for some new ones as soon as my 605 comes back from repair. 150 rounds and the center pin started sticking so that the cylinder won't lock in.
Funny, it was after shooting .357's. Your right it kicks like a mule. I'm considering getting it ported. That should help.

I had my ex M605 ported at the Taurus custom shop.
It doesn't help that much and the upward blast from those magnum rounds makes it almost impossible to see at night after you touch a round off!!
I sold that one and have recently purchased another...non ported!! It's gunna stay that way!!

I know what you mean. My 605 came with the boot Handgun Grips also. Nice for a ccw but not much for controling recoil.
As denfoote suggested, the Hogue mono Handgun Grips work great. I have them on several of my .357's and they work great.
You might also try Pachmayer. I put a pair on my 605 and they work great.

Uh oh - that old grip was one of the great things about the 605 and the control it gave was one of the reasons I recommended the 605 as an alternative to the SP101 for those with budget woes. But with the .38 Handgun Grips I won't be doing that anymore, it changes the gun too much to for me to be sure it's compatible... At least until I shoot one with the shorter Handgun Grips, sigh.
The old Handgun Grips were made by Hogue and I thought they were a rubber version of thier very well made "boot grip" style. Good stuff those were.
Why would they mess with something that was very well made and worked as well as anything out there? Now they'll just be another marginally handling snubby.

Posts: 473 I replaced the boot Handgun Grips with the oldstyle combat types. you can get them from taurus directly for $12. Huge diff.

Posts: 6 I bought the wife a Taurus 605 SS 2" because she loved the Handgun Grips. Only problem was that when the ordered Taurus arrived, it had BOOT Handgun Grips and she was not happy. No problem, the dealer said he could get the original Handgun Grips. Two months and several telephone calls later he admitted defeat. His supplier could not get the Handgun Grips. So I fired off a letter to Taurus and after another 6 weeks of waiting (they moved, the Handgun Grips were backordered, it was Christmas holiday time etc) the Handgun Grips arrived and I have a happy wife. Taurus sells the longer grip for about $9 - get some and your handling problems will be resolved.
