Rubber on blued without shame???

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Never really found the perfect wood Handgun Grips for K-frame square butt Smiths.

Just wondered if anybody elese was like me keeping a pair of great looking, traditional style custom wood Handgun Grips on my blued classics ( S/W Models 18 and 19)...but occasionally slipping on a pair of rubbber $20 rubber Handgun Grip that actually fit better when nobodies looking for shooting

Posts: 14,039 Most of my blued S&Ws, especially the ones that I carry regularly, have rubber Handgun Grip.

Don't like it?

Tough. They're my guns.

Posts: 255 If the rubber Handgun Grips 'actually fit better ' then it probably means you shoot better with them. IMHO comfort has a whole lot to do with shooting. Don't think anyone would really care.

Posts: 472 Just to let you know, ALL my pistols and revolvers have Hogue rubber Handgun Grips on them...

Even my Blackhawk...

Although the Hogue wooden Handgun Grip DO look and feel nice, I am cheap...

YMMV,

Desert Dog er's wear Hogue rubber's.
In the past, I have preferred Pachmayr's; but I believe I
like the Hogue one-piece Handgun Grips better!

Posts: 334 I have Hogue finger groove, open back strap panels on my 4 inch M-19. This is my house gun and they fit like a glove. I have nothing against rubber on a D/A though this sixgun is the only one I have that wears them.

Posts: 810 The Del Mar gunshow always has this one vendor with a nice selection of wood Handgun Grips. I found a set of laminated rosewood fingergroove Handgun Grips for my Mod-586 yesterday, a very similar set for my Mod-57 a few shows ago. They're gorgeous and feel very good. No name on the Handgun Grips, I have no idea from whom or what company manufactures them, but they are out there.

Posts: 169 I put Hogue finger groove Handgun Grips on my 6" 586. They fit may hand perfectly and don't hurt. The S&W Handgun Grips have such deep checkering that they used to cut into my hands after a lot of firing.

I personally don't find the S&W wood Handgun Grips very attractive and have replaced the ones on my Model 17 with Sambar Stag. My 629-4 came with very comfortable and good fitting rubber Handgun Grips. I kept those on.

Posts: 4,182 I've got Pachmayr Handgun Grips on my blue forty four. It does a good job of slimming down the grip of that square butt N-Frame. Fits my hand a lot better than the magna Handgun Grips (Dirty Harry) that come on it.

Posts: 589 All of my Smith's wear wood stocks. To be fair, I don't shoot "heavy" loads very often and when I do, only a few at a time to keep in practice with them. There is no doubt that rubber is a comfortable material, but it just looks ugly (IMO) on my revolvers.

Posts: 810 The new (still can't believe I bought a new S&W) 629-6 I just got comes with rubberfingergroove Handgun Grips which will probably stay on. They fit well and are very comfortable. All my blue revo's are in wood, a couple are still in S&W factory Handgun Grips.

I save the wooden Handgun Grips for my old age ...

so I can show the grand kids what "new" guns
USED to come with.

Relativity....
Some of my century old Smiths came with hard rubber Handgun Grips.

I have some lovely stocks.
I have some shooters.
Some of my shooters have lovely stocks.
Some of my shooters are beaters.

But....all my shooters fit ME.

Didn't get em for other folks.

Been known to use electrical tape and a styrofoam cup to get a shotgun to fit me. Wasn't going for style points, comb too low to bust them quail...

Looks funny on a model 15 too, works tho

I recently swapped the Hogue Monogrip on my Model 10 for the original(1957)wood Handgun Grips. They give the gun a completely different look and "feel". I love the look of varnished&checked wood against the deep blue, but....the position of the original grip raises my trigger finger so high, that I have to pull up more than straight back...after a while, I put the Hogue back on....much more ergonomic.

Am I the only person in the world that prefers the original S & W walnut wood checked Handgun Grips over all else on a model 19? I find that they provide the best handling available and they still grip well when my hands are sweaty.

I have three 19's. Two 2 1/2". One 4". All orig. wood Handgun Grips. I do use Tyler grip inserts on the 2 1/2's however.

Posts: 660 physchosword- You are not alone. All my Smiths wear factory wood Handgun Grips except the M58. I like the Magna stocks on 4" barrels (and shorter) and Targets on the 6" guns (and longer). Haven't guite made up my mind which way to go on the 5" guns. Leaning towards Magnas. The .41 has Pachmayrs because although I detest them, that is the hardest kicking gun I own and wood stocks pound my hand in short order.

Rubber is more efficient. Enough that stiff loads require a glove or you blister or actually tear the skin of your palm.

CHEAP TRICK: Motocross gloves make awesome shooter's glove. (Give the other one to a left-handed friend, or vice versa) The material allows for a very good feel of the weapon, and they are usually half the price of the equivalent shooter's glove.

300 gr. handloads for my .45 Blackhawk often need a glove use...

YMMV,
