I recently purchased a 1916 Canadian proofed Colt New Service. The gun is mechanically very tight and shows honest wear, not abuse.
However, the Handgun Grip are aftermarket and just don't look so nice. Any thoughts on sources for replacements? I continue to check gunbroker and auctionarms (and sometimes eBay), but have made little headway.

Posts: 769 Brownells and Dixie Gunworks both sell reproduction epoxy material Handgun Grips that look like the hard rubber originals but there much more durable. I have a set of these on one of my Colts and they look good. Check them out to see if they have this model in stock.

Posts: 660 I bought a set of replacements for mine that look like the old hard rubber style. I think these are offered on AuctionArms for around $20. Original checkered walnut Handgun Grips turn up once in a great while but I can't bring myself to pay more than I paid for the gun to own a set.

LOL. I know what you mean. I saw some of the prices at other sights and got sticker shock.
Anyone familiar with the North Carolina Ordance "Royalwood" Handgun Grips?
I'd prefer wood, but repro "hard rubber" is better then the material on there now.

Have you got a link for North Caroline Ord(n?)ance? I can't find a web presence for this firm. I have a few hard rubber stocked New Service revolvers I'd be delighted to fit with wooden stocks (of course retaining the factory stocks). And a few Police Positives too...
Meanwhile, here is a bit of wooden stocked New Service eye candy:
A Shooting Master in 38 Special,
and a New Service Target in 44 Russian.

I love the bottom set of Handgun Grips. Beautiful. My New Service is no where near that condition. I'll post pics after Christmas when I get it.
NCO is at www.gungrip.com
Here is the page for their "Royalwood".

These are plain military Handgun Grips. They offer repro hard rubber Handgun Grips as well.
I have no experience with their products.

I may try a set on my New Service in 455 Eley. Originals are indeed getting hard to come by.

I don't really dismiss Gun Parts/Numrich as a source. The trouble with them is that you're never sure just what will arrive. That said, I have, on occasion, been pleasantly surprised.

I've had hit and miss experience with gunparts as well. Currently, their online site says they are out of Handgun Grips anyway.
Mostly I'm curious about the "Royalwood" Handgun Grips I found at NCO. They are a synthetic material from what I read on the site, that "looks, feels, and stains like real wood". While it sounds interesting, I've never heard of them and am skeptical.

Fitz Handgun Grips was the premier supplier of aftermarket Handgun Grips from 1924 til I retired in 1979. I do have a supply of walnut and cherry wood Handgun Grips for old Colts with the Colt Viper and Diamondback frames that had different names. I have a line drawing available and for a possible customer I ask that they make a drawing on stiff paper to match the bare grip frame including the bolt and other holes and send it to me to fit to one of my old Handgun Grips. It has worked quite well and I have about two dozen Handgun Grips left. My wood Handgun Grips replaced bakelite and other broken ones. Thanks Paul
